It’s your turn now — to merge practicality with ideals. To find a balance. To be a pragmatic seeker. To ground the ideals and to put wings on your hard labor.

A quick background. Your Turn are articles which help you explore & experiment with power of meditation. Your Turn articles include simple activities, meditations & reflections which you can do anytime anywhere.

As you will find again and again, the central theme of my articles is meditation. Why should it not be? Meditation is the most pragmatic, effective and easily available self exploration tool ever.

Here it is your time to Experiment — Investigate — Explore — Implement — Observe. E-I-E-I-O. Like the nursery rhyme. Do these experiments with the curiosity of child.

To get a better context of this Your Turn, read through this article first.

Is Meditation Meant for Seeking Surreal and Flimsy Ideals

The idea of this Your Turn is to connect ideals with reality.

So, let’s turn to it.

Kindness

Let’s break the barrier.

Do an act of kindness at home or outside.

If you have never cleaned your home before, pick a broom and surprise your spouse or parents or kids. Or, give them an extra smile. Or, appreciate them. Make them feel special. You could cook for them. Do something that will make their day. Something beyond what you have been doing.

Or, you can also do it outside. Go out and help a complete stranger. Maybe someone needs a help lifting luggage or dusting their shop. Or, cleaning their garden.

Do something different. Kindness.

This might feel forced. But do it. You are bridging a gap between an ideal and pragmatic daily living. There will be an awkwardness involved.

Doesn’t matter if life has been kind to you or not. This is you bringing kindness to life. Your choice. Your decision. Nobody can take it away from you.

And once you do this activity, forget about it.

Don’t take any favors in return.

PS: You might wanna be careful if the stranger is cautious due to COVID and doesn’t take your help. Never mind. This is an experiment. You tried.

Deep Breaths

How did it feel? Awkward?

If you were not able to gear up courage to do it. Then take deep breaths. For 3 minutes.

Keep your attention on the breath. It will make you feel lighter.

Now go ahead and do the act of kindness.

And after the act of kindness, if you feel awkward, take deep breaths again. For 3 minutes.

Did you feel good?

Let’s move on to the next Your Turn

Meditate

Nothing complex here.

Just close your eyes. You have a sweet strange feeling inside.

Observe it. Are you feeling tired or relaxed? Strange or Normal?

Just close your eyes and observe this feeling for 3 to 4 minutes.

And relax. Don’t judge.

Don’t worry you don’t want anything in return.

Open your eyes.

Done.

This is it. That was a simple experiment to experience living an ideal. If you liked it, keep it rolling. Meditate more and more. You will surprised how inspired you will feel everyday.
