Meditation is a More Effective Way to Find Peace than Enjoying in Nature

Dear Pragmatic Seeker,

Last week I had an epiphany when I was going out for a walk. I realized that the relaxation that we feel when we go out in nature is because of the stimulus from nature.

Nature is inherently harmonious & peaceful.

If you are feeling tired, overworked, and drained, a walk in nature will relax you. This is because the calm scenery of nature is in contrast with the anxious thoughts running in your head at that time. As you stay in nature for some time and absorb more of these contrasting impressions, the tension in your head is released. The difference unwinds you.

On the other hand, if you are yearning to party, talk to friends, go shopping, or be in the crowd, then at that point, being in nature is not an exciting proposition. Just the look of it, the dark shadows of trees will feel scary or boring rather than peaceful and silent.

Nature always releases vibes of silence. How we perceive it, depends on how we are feeling at that point. We might find it peaceful or boring.

In comparison to walking in nature, meditation is different. During meditation, you don’t wait for any external stimulus to relax you. Agreed, you can use relaxing music to prepare an atmosphere for meditation. But that is it. After a point, you are on your own. Not relying on anything external.

This is why meditation works, irrespective of how you feel. Irrespective of how many times you’ve done it. It always makes you feel peaceful, energetic and relaxed.

Doesn’t matter if you want to go out with friends or you want to become a recluse for a day, you can meditate. You will feel cheerful and energetic irrespective.

Meditation does not depend on any external impression. It is your journey into a space devoid of impressions.

Best thing to do if you love walking in nature is to meditate after a nice walk. Make a part of your walk in nature mindful. Absorb the peace of nature for sometime as a preparation for the meditation that follows.
